Volunteer w/ BEAT: Cut & Pull Invasive Hardy Kiwi

March 18, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Every Friday from 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

Please consider joining us to help cut invasive hardy kiwi vines at Burbank Park in Pittsfield.

Anyone and everyone is welcome regardless of age or experience. However, you must be able to walk on a path over rough ground for 5-10 minutes to get to the location where we pull and cut.

We meet at the boat ramp parking lot of Onota Lake (google map), promptly at 10AM. We will head into the woods and work until 11:30am.

Due to COVID-19: If you feel sick or have been in contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19, please do not come! If you are unvaccinated, please wear a facemask.

*Extreme or wet weather cancels this event.

RSVP HERE – WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU!

WHAT IS HARDY KIWI?
Hardy Kiwi is an exotic invasive vine that threatens forests in western Massachusetts through complete domination of mature trees. Once it germinates, it will climb surrounding vegetation and eventually kill its support. Hardy kiwi can grow over 30 feet in a year. It has become a major problem in places such as Kennedy Park and Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, and now Burbank Park.
