Mosses & Lichens: A Winter Wonderland
February 16 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Winter is a perfect time to focus on the tiny greenish things in the world, such as mosses and their relatives and lichens. These small organisms capture our attention and invite us to take a closer look.
Join Vermont Land Trust and ecologist Liz Thompson to dive into how mosses, liverworts, and hornworts are put together. You’ll learn how they reproduce and understand how to identify a few of the most common species. You’ll also examine lichens and learn how they’re made up of fungi and algae (and sometimes other things) growing together in a mutual relationship. You’ll look into how lichens reproduce and what they tell us about their habitats, and you’ll learn to recognize a few notable species.
