Mass Fisheries and Wildlife Listening Session: Trout Stocking in the Deerfield River
October 17 @ 1:00 pm
October 17, 2024. Listening Session Notice: Trout Stocking in the Deerfield River.
The Fisheries and Wildlife Board has received a request from individuals who want MassWildlife to stop stocking rainbow trout in the upper Deerfield River because they believe the stocking is impacting the wild brown trout fishery in the river. The current management, in one of F&W’s most popular catch-and-release areas, includes the stocking of rainbow trout to supplement a low-density but sustainable wild brown trout fishery. Recognizing the importance of the Deerfield River fishery to the broader angling public, the Fisheries and Wildlife Board is seeking public input and feedback on this request.
High-quality trout fishing in a beautiful scenic setting makes the Deerfield River a popular destination for anglers of all levels. Join the Fisheries and Wildlife Board to participate in a listening session on October 17 to learn about fisheries management, trout stocking, conservation, and research on the upper Deerfield River, from the Fife Brook Dam in Florida downstream to the Route 2 crossing in Charlemont. Following a presentation by MassWildlife’s Todd Richards and Andrew Madden, the public will have the opportunity to ask questions and to give their opinions and feedback on trout stocking in the upper Deerfield River.
Two listening sessions will be held via Zoom on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. and at 6:00 p.m.
