Lichens: what are they and what is their role in our local ecosystem? Often found growing on trees, rocks, old fences, soil, and other outdoor surfaces, lichens are fascinating when you get to know more about them. Every lichen is a symbiotic association between a fungus and an algae or cyanobacteria, and each combination results in a unique lichen with a specific growth form and ecology. This introductory online presentation will increase your appreciation for and understanding of the beauty and ecological significance lichens, as well as explore some of the best internet resources to help you learn more.
