Housatonic River Cleanups with HVA & BEAT
June 5, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
BEAT and Housatonic Valley Association (HVA) are collaborating once again to continue our efforts of cleaning up the Housatonic River. Last time we pulled out 4 shopping carts, 2 huge inflatable pools, and lots of other interesting stuff. What will we find this time?
We are planning three cleanup dates at two separate locations. You can find the date and places listed below.
Sunday, June 5 @ 1 — 4 PM
» Decker Landing boat ramp (298 Lenox Rd, Lenox)
We will conduct this cleanup in canoes by paddling from Decker Landing and collecting trash caught behind trees and other natural areas.
Saturday, June 25 @ 9 AM — 1 PM
» We will meet at Wahconah Park (105 Wahconah St, Pittsfield) before splitting into small groups to tackle various sections of the river.
Saturday, July 23 @ 9 AM — 1 PM
» We will meet at Wahconah Park (105 Wahconah St, Pittsfield) before splitting into small groups to tackle various sections of the river.
Prepare to get wet and dirty. Wear old sneakers, rubber boots, or waders. (We may have a few pairs of waders for people to borrow — inquire within.) Bring a full water bottle, as well as bug repellent and sunscreen if you need them.
Please reach out to team@thebeatnews.org for more information or to RSVP.
Each summer, BEAT is proud to partner with the Housatonic Valley Association (HVA) to remove trash from the West Branch of the Housatonic River. The West Branch is a beautiful stretch of the river running south from Pontoosuc Lake and Onota Lake to join with the East Branch on the south end of Pittsfield. Unlike the East Branch, the West Branch poses no health-threat from PCBs. BEAT and HVA staff and volunteers take to the river in waders, boots, and canoes to pull out trash and keep the river beautiful.
