Garlic Mustard Pull

May 11 @ 10:00 am

It’s that time of year, when the invasive garlic mustard plants are showing off their little white flowers, and are easy to spot! Join the Monterey Native Plants Working Group in a Garlic Mustard Pull at the recently planted Bidwell Park, Saturday May 11th at 10:00am. RSVP HERE

**Bidwell Park is not accessible by car; please park at Monterey Town Hall across the road, and then walk down into the park, following the river.

Garlic mustard is very easy to pull and requires no special tools, but it is suggested you wear gardening gloves (always a good practice) and tuck your pants into long socks (also a good practice!)

You may want to bring bug spray and a drink as well.

Why pull garlic mustard?  It spreads easily through seed dispersion, and is allelopathic, meaning that it releases chemicals which can inhibit the growth of other plant species, including the native plants we want to see flourish at the newly planted Bidwell Park.

To learn more about garlic mustard, and how to eradicate it at your own house, watch this short video:
