Celebrate Earth Day’s 50th anniversary Saturday afternoon, September 17th, during Lee’s annual (first since 2019) Founders Weekend!
The National Environmental Policy Act, one of the most important pieces of environmentally oriented federal legislation, was enacted on January 1, 1970. The first Earth Day events took place on April 22, 1970, to protest environmental degradation, raise awareness of environmental issues, and celebrate the environment. Earth Day is the world’s largest secular holiday, with more than 500 million people taking part in 174 countries.
