ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Shelby Perry discovered slime molds while mapping natural communities on 15,000 acres of forestry land for her master’s project back in 2015. That summer, she spent 3 months wandering the woods full-time in search of significant natural communities and important habitat features, work that required a working knowledge of everything she might bump into out there. With a little digging, she was able to identify nearly everything she encountered during that time until a slime mold stumped her. After a great deal of research, googling, annoying and emailing slime mold scholars, and purchasing out-of-print books later, Shelby now confidently knows the basics of these enigmatic creatures. Currently serving as Wildlands Ecology Director at Northeast Wilderness Trust, a forever-wild land trust based in Montpelier, VT, Shelby now spends her days learning about the stunning diversity of creatures large and small that benefit from wild places, slime molds included.
