Amphibian + Reptile Walk with Tom Tyning at Berkshire Biodiversity Day

September 23, 2023 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Join Professor Tom Tyning, an expert on amphibians and reptiles and an authority on New England’s natural history, for a guided herp walk at the 14th Berkshire Biodiversity Day. As part of the biological surveys, Tom will lead folks through a forest to check under cover boards and logs for reptiles and amphibians; this is a common surveying method used by herpetologists.

This walk is one of many activities taking place during this year’s Berkshire Bioblitz that’s taking place on September 23–24, from noon to noon, at April Hill Education and Conservation Center, the headquarters for Greenagers. In addition to this guided walk, there will be presentations and demonstrations led by experts, all of which are free and open to the public.

DATE: Saturday, September 23

TIME: 2:30 PM – 3:15 PM

LOCATION: Meet at April Hill (Greenagers), 62 N Undermountain Rd, South Egremont, MA (Link to map)

Biological surveys and expert-led walks will be conducted in Bow Wow Woods — a 50-acre parcel of land just off Rte 41 on Bow Wow Rd – which was recently acquired by Greenagers and will soon be protected by a conservation restriction to be held by the Sheffield and Egremont Land Trusts. There are two half-mile trail loops in Bow Wow Woods: one on relatively flat ground and another that descends a small hillside before running alongside vernal pools and wetlands. All other activities will take place at April Hill.
