2024 Housatonic Heritage Walks

September 28 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Explore with knowledgeable & local historians, naturalists, and environmentalists at sites within the Housatonic River Valley: tours of historic buildings and town centers, hikes on the Appalachian Trail and other trails, walks through industrial heritage sites, a canoe paddling trip on the Housatonic River, bike rides on old country roads that have a history, behind-the-scenes tours at performing arts venues, and strolls through formal gardens and estates. All ages & all people are invited to join us!

Most of these walks require registration. Please be sure to look at the more detailed schedule to find specific instructions on how to register. 

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28

10:00 AM–12:00 PM: THE SECRETS OF MUDDY POND & THE BUILDING OF THE 1ST U.S. RAILROAD MOUNTAIN CROSSING (Washington, MA)
10:00–11:30 AM: NA WALK TO STONEY LONESOME (Norfolk, CT)
10:00 AM–12:00 PM: A RAMBLE IN THE BIDWELL WOODS (Monterey, MA)
10:30 AM–12:30 PM: GREAT BARRINGTON’S ARCHITECTURE & HISTORY – THE STORY OF GREAT BUILDINGS IN A GREAT TOWN (Great Barrington, MA)
1:00–3:00 PM: TOUR THE NORTHEAST SCHOOLHOUSE AND PART OF THE NORTHEAST DISTRICT (Richmond, MA)
3:00–5:00 PM: HISTORIC WALKING TOUR OF THE TOWN OF LEE, “GATEWAY TO THE BERKSHIRES” (Lee, MA)

The Housatonic Heritage Walks are a partnership between the Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area, the numerous heritage organizations in the Upper Housatonic River Valley, the Berkshire Eagle, Berkshire Bank, and the National Park Service.
