2024 Housatonic Heritage Walks

Explore with knowledgeable & local historians, naturalists, and environmentalists at sites within the Housatonic River Valley: tours of historic buildings and town centers, hikes on the Appalachian Trail and other trails, walks through industrial heritage sites, a canoe paddling trip on the Housatonic River, bike rides on old country roads that have a history, behind-the-scenes tours at performing arts venues, and strolls through formal gardens and estates. All ages & all people are invited to join us!

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 22
9:30 AM–12:00 PM: BOREAL SPRUCE-FIR FOREST & WATERFALL HIKE: PLANTS, TREES AND WILD EDIBLES AT THE TAMARACK HOLLOW NATURE & CULTURAL CENTER (Savoy/Windsor, MA)
10:00 AM–12:30 AM: 12-15 MILE BICYCLE TOUR OF HISTORIC SHEFFIELD & ASHLEY FALLS (Sheffield, MA)
10:00 AM–12:00 PM: EXPLORING THE HISTORIC BECKET QUARRY AND FOREST (Becket, MA)
1:00–2:00 PM: PLANTING THE SEEDS FOR NEW UNDERSTANDING AT THE INSTITUTE FOR AMERICAN INDIAN STUDIES (Washington, CT)
2:00–4:00 PM: EXPLORE THE FAUNA, FLORA AND CULTURAL HISTORY OF THE OLD MILL TRAIL (Hinsdale, MA)

The Housatonic Heritage Walks are a partnership between the Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area, the numerous heritage organizations in the Upper Housatonic River Valley, the Berkshire Eagle, Berkshire Bank, and the National Park Service.
