Capital Campaign to make BEAT’s Environmental Leadership & Education Center a fully accessible, net-zero energy recharge center where people can come to get warm or cool and charge their battery-powered devices in the event of a blackout. We will demonstrate how to transform our building, which was originally built in 1868, to be highly energy-efficient – and heated and cooled by heat pumps – with no fossil fuel use. We will show how to restore a riverbank that is filled with non-native invasive plants to a haven of trees, shrubs, and other plants that support pollinators and other wildlife throughout the year. Our yard will be filled with plants for pollinators at every stage of their life cycle. We will also have an accessible balcony that overlooks the Housatonic River for all to see and appreciate the local flora and fauna.
