Rare Butterfly At Bartholomew’s Cobble In Sheffield
A rare butterfly in our area, the Giant Swallowtail, has been spotted flying around Bartholomew’s Cobble. It is currently being sighted regularly at the Trustees of Reservations property in Sheffield. Since Rene Wendell, Cobble ranger and Berkshire Environmental Action Team board member, reported the butterfly, entomologists and nature observers from as far away as Cape Cod have been making the trip to the Berkshires just to see this rare-for-Massachusetts insect. If you’d like to see it, visit Bartholomew’s Cobble in Sheffield, Massachusetts. In addition to seeing the Giant Swallowtail, you can canoe, hike, or just relax and enjoy the amazing Berkshire vistas. [NOTE: BEAT last checked on August 17. The butterfly was still making regular appearances.]
