Winter Tree Identification Walk with BEAT + TOURISTS
December 27 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Join BEAT’s programs director, Chelsey Simmons, for a winter tree identification walk on the TOURISTS grounds in North Adams, and learn how to identify trees throughout all the seasons with a local naturalist and tree enthusiast!
It may be surprising, but winter is an excellent time to learn tree and shrub identification. The absence of leaves allows one to examine distinctive features that often get overlooked, like buds, bark, and tree structure. We’ll walk the trails of the TOURISTS property, discussing the land-use history and the phases of forest succession while also identifying trees and shrubs we see on the property and along the Hoosic River that intersects it.
This walk also features large art pieces placed throughout the landscape, like giant heads, reflective rainbow pyramids, and interactive noise sculptures — plus an incredible extension bridge we’ll cross that goes over the river!
This walk will be stop-and-go and outside the entire time, so please dress for the weather.
Space is limited. Registration is required. Reserve your spot here!
