“Food Inc. 2” Screening and Panel Discussion
October 27 @ 3:00 pm
Berkshire International Film Festival presents Food Inc 2, directed by Robert Kenner and Melissa Robledo, as part of the 7th annual Environmental Film Focus Series in partnership with Triplex Cinema
The groundbreaking Oscar®-nominated documentary FOOD INC., which was screened at BIFF in 2008, ignited a cultural conversation about the multinational corporations that control our food system at enormous cost to our planet, workforce and health. In the well-timed sequel, FOOD INC. 2, comes “back for seconds” to reveal how corporate consolidation has gone unchecked by our government, leaving us with a highly efficient yet shockingly vulnerable food system dedicated only towards increasing profits. The film stars Michael Pollan, Senator Cory Booker, Senator John Tester and Eric Schlosser.
A panel discussion with Maryann Tebben and Dan Carr of Berkshire Agricultural Ventures and BIFF programmer, Lillian Lennox, will follow the screening.
Dan Carr works for the non-profit Berkshire Agricultural Ventures (BAV) as the technical assistance and outreach manager. At BAV Dan works with farmers and food businesses in the Berkshire Taconic Region to improve farm viability. He also owns and operates Beavertides Farm in Falls Village, CT with his wife Marleen and two sons. They raise grass-fed beef and lamb, produce honey, and run various agrotourism enterprises. He previously held farm manager positions at Q Farms, and Stone Barns Center. From 2007-2010 Dan was an agriculture Peace Corps volunteer in northern Malawi.
Dr. Maryann Tebben is Professor of French and director of the Center for Food and Resilience at Bard College at Simon’s Rock. Since 2014, she has chaired the annual ThinkFOOD conference at Simon’s Rock, bringing together scholars, activists, and community members from across Massachusetts and the Northeast. Her research examines the relationship of food culture to national identity in France and Italy. She has published three books on food history: Sauces: A Global History (2014), Savoir-Faire : A History of French Food (2020) and Food Cultures of France (2021). She teaches courses on French language and literature and Food Studies at Simon’s Rock.
“FOOD INC. forever changed the way people think about what they eat. Fifteen years later FOOD INC. 2 is just as urgent and essential.” – Alice Waters
