2024 Housatonic Heritage Walks

September 15 @ 10:00 am - 7:00 pm

Explore with knowledgeable & local historians, naturalists, and environmentalists at sites within the Housatonic River Valley: tours of historic buildings and town centers, hikes on the Appalachian Trail and other trails, walks through industrial heritage sites, a canoe paddling trip on the Housatonic River, bike rides on old country roads that have a history, behind-the-scenes tours at performing arts venues, and strolls through formal gardens and estates. All ages & all people are invited to join us!

Most of these walks require registration. Please be sure to look at the more detailed schedule to find specific instructions on how to register. 

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 15

10:00–11:30 AM: A WALK BACK IN TIME AT “THE BOULDERS” IN DALTON (Dalton, MA)
10:00 AM–1:00 PM: EXPLORE THE FAUNA, FLORA AND CULTURAL HISTORY OF BASIN POND RESERVE (Lee, MA)
11:00 AM–12:00 PM: CANNON AT 20 PACES! THE RISE AND FALL OF THE AMES IRON WORKS (Salisbury, CT)
1:00–3:00 PM: A CULTURAL AND NATURAL HISTORY TOUR OF MT. GREYLOCK’S SUMMIT: A MOUNTAINTOP WALK (Lanesborough/Adams, MA)
1:30–2:30 PM: AMERICAN CHESTNUTS: LOST & FOUND (Falls Village, CT)
3:00–5:00 PM: A WALK IN THE WOODS AT CANOE MEADOWS WILDLIFE PRESERVE (Pittsfield, MA)
3:00–4:30 PM: EXPLORE THE IMPRESSIVE GARDENS & LANDSCAPE OF THE MOUNT – HOME OF EDITH WHARTON (Lenox, MA)
5:30–6:45 PM: BOREAL FOREST ECOLOGY SLIDESHOW & SUMMIT WALK AT BASCOM LODGE & MT. GREYLOCK SUMMIT (Lanesborough/Adams, MA)

The Housatonic Heritage Walks are a partnership between the Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area, the numerous heritage organizations in the Upper Housatonic River Valley, the Berkshire Eagle, Berkshire Bank, and the National Park Service.
