Expressing yourself through personal nature essays is a powerful way to make a difference in your own life as well as in the world around you. You’ll receive two contemporary nature essays to read prior to our first meeting and in the first of this 2-session workshop we’ll discuss the readings in regard to technique and content, and then spend much of our time writing from prompts. In between sessions, you’ll begin to craft your own piece so that in the second session, we’ll discuss our writing experience, have time to share our writing, and spend more class time practicing our craft with additional prompts. You’ll also learn about a variety of unique personal essay forms to add to your writers’ ‘toolkit’. While sharing your writing is optional, writers will also be given the opportunity to receive positive feedback from the group if they wish. After each session, you’ll receive a list of nature writing resources to help you in your nature writing journey.

Meet your presenter:

Kim Hoff, Teacher/Naturalist at Arcadia, a nature writer and essayist who has written for Mass Audubon’s Explore and just had an essay published with Northern Woodlands Magazine.
