Community Science: NestWatch Volunteer Training
May 6, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
NestWatch is a nationwide nest monitoring program led by Cornell’s Lab of Ornithology and supported by community members like yourself. Participating is fun, and anyone can do it – even young ones!
Berkshire Natural Resources Council (BNRC) is offering this exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful research and get an intimate window into Tree Swallow and Eastern Bluebird nesting, from incubation to fledging. During the training, participants will be equipped with all the necessary materials (binoculars, clipboards, etc.) and information.
Time Commitment & Responsibilities
- Volunteers must commit to at least one full nesting attempt, a duration of 3-4 weeks, by visiting a nestbox at Hollow Fields to collect data at least once a week during that time.
- Volunteers can participate at any point during the nesting season (May-August)
- Collecting data on-site should take place in the late morning or afternoon and takes no more than 10 minutes, plus 10-30 minutes to hike to the location.
- Volunteers should attend one NestWatch Community Science Training, choosing from sessions held on Thursday, April 27, or Saturday, May 6.
